Mary Ellen Dorris Towater, age 86 of Jackson, passed away on February 23, 2023 at Northbrooke Health Care.
Mary was born on March 10, 1936 in Jackson, TN, the daughter of the late Victor and Gladys DeVasher Dorris. She retired after many years of service to the State of Tennessee as an Auditor. Following her retirement, she was active in the South Jackson Civitan Club, Volunteer at the Carl Perkins Civic Center for many different events, enjoyed spending time at the VFW Post 6946 and enjoyed helping and volunteering at schools working with students with disabilities.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Towater; her two sons, Michael and Kenny Lemons; her brothers, George Dorris, Neal Dorris, and Gene Allen Dorris; and her sister, Martha Doris Gideon.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Freida Lemons; her grandchildren, Trent Lemons, Kristi Lemons, and David Lemons; and several step grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
The family will receive friends and loved ones on Sunday, February 26, 2023 from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm at the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm. Burial will be in Liberty Grove Cemetery.
