Mary Ella Tidwell Vaughn was born November 17, 1917 in Adamsville, TN the daughter of the late John J and Artie Catherine Littlefield Tidwell. She was united in marriage to Leon Grady Vaughn Sr. on February 2, 1941. Mr. Vaughn preceded her in death on March 26, 1989.
Miss Vaughn worked for the Department of Human Services, UT. Extension Services, a teacher at the Adamsville High School, and was a co-owner of Vaughn’s Department Store. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Adamsville, Tennessee, a fifty plus year member of the Eastern Star at Adamsville TN; a charter member of the Adamsville Lions Club; president of the Retired Social Workers Organization of TN; and a member of the Adamsville McNairy County Senior Center.
Miss Vaughn and a group of friends formed a canasta club which lasted for fifty years, she was very active in her community, she enjoyed working in and being a part of church activities, she also loved working with her foster children and foster parents.
Miss Vaughn departed this life on May 23, 2015 in Adamsville, Tennessee at the age of 97 Years, 6 Months, 6 Days.
She is survived by two daughters, Cindy Vaughn Thrasher and husband Terry of Adamsville, TN, Mitzi Robison Sherrill and husband Mike of Jackson, TN; two sons, Joseph Tidwell Vaughn and wife Jane of Adamsville, TN, Gary Vaughn and wife Elaine of Adamsville, TN; nine grandchildren, Leslie Thrasher, Kerri (Thrasher) Murphy and husband Clifford, John Robison, Jennifer (Vaughn) Oestreich and husband Ken, Justin Vaughn, Ryan Robison and wife Jennifer, Jeff Vaughn, Dallas Vaughn and wife Liz, Zak Vaughn; eight great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Murphy, Owen Murphy, Weston Murphy, Hailey Robison, Grady Robison, Anna Robison, Christian Vaughn, and Alayna Vaughn.
In addition to her husband and parents, Miss Vaughn was preceded in death by
two sons, Leon Grady Vaughn Jr., James Harold Robison; a brother, James Tidwell and wife Judy; a sister, Johnnie Caperton and husband Harold; and a grandchild, Susanne Vaughn.
