Mary Elizabeth Burross Barnett was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on July 18, 1933 the daughter of the late William Wiley and Ethel Lescure Burross.

On December 30, 1967 she was united in marriage to James Parker Barnett, who preceded his wife in death on May 16, 2015.

Mary worked as a seamstress for Brown Shoe Company. She was a member of Morris Chapel Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years and Vacation Bible School Teacher and worker. Mary was also a member of the DAV Auxiliary in Savannah, Tennessee. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing and making her family clothes and working with flowers. Mary loved all animals, especially birds and cats. All the stray dogs and cats in the area always knew her house was the place to go.

Mary departed this life on Wednesday, July 18, 2021 in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 1 day.

She is survived by her daughter, Connie Smith and her husband Tony of Adamsville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Angie Reed and her husband Travis and Tim Smith and his wife Angie; great grandchildren, Ashley Reed, Parker Smith, Katelyn Reed, and Katie Smith; one brother, George Burross of Cunningham, Tennessee; and a host of nieces of nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by one sister, Jeanette Morris and brothers, Elvis Burross, Joe Burross, and infant brother, Tommy Burross.
