Mary Drake Sanders Hendricks, 94, of Huntsville, passed peacefully in her sleep on September 28, 2017. Born to Peyton A. and Neva Nunn Drake, she lived her entire life in Madison County and over 70 years on Monte Sano Mountain. For many years she was an active member of Burritt Museum Guild, Monte Sano Garden Club, Monte Sano United Methodist Women and several bridge clubs, one of which she founded and played for over 50 years. Mary was preceded in death by husbands Fred G. Sanders, Jr. and Evan S. Hendricks.
Survivors include her sister, Margie Drake Davis of Hoover, AL; children, Fred G. Sanders III (Lynn) of Huntsville, Suzanne S. Pratt (Dr. George) of Norfolk, VA, and Amy S. West (Steve) of Grand Rapids, MI; stepchildren, Bill Hendricks (Martha) of Bozeman, MT, Betty Howard (Rick) of New Market, and Bob Hendricks (Laurie) of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Rebekah Bynum (Terry) of Huntsville, Rachel Harding (Roger) of Chesapeake, VA, MaryLynn Evans (Mike) of Huntsville, Christopher Starnes of Virginia Beach, VA, David Sanders (Anna) of Huntsville, Meredith Craven (Joffrey) of Cypress, TX and Dr. Emily West (Dr. Eric McFeely) of Oakland, CA; thirteen great-grandchildren; and eleven nieces and nephews.
Mary’s service will be Saturday, October 7th, at 11:00 at Monte Sano United Methodist Church with Rev. John Mullaney officiating, and visitation 30 minutes prior to the service.
