Mary Bratton, age 68, of Hollywood, AL passed away on April 12, 2024, from Early Onset Alzheimer’s disease after a 13-year battle. She was preceded in death by her father Bob Barber.
She is survived by her husband Mike; her Mother Betty Barber; her children Ben (Esther) and Beth (Graham) Patterson; her grandchildren Charlotte, Margaret, Rob, and Gray; her siblings Susan, Jeffrey, and David (Freda) Barber.
Mary attended MTSU and Georgia State (MEd). After her education, she taught middle school in Atlanta, Ft Payne, and Scottsboro until she became a stay-at-home mother in 1983. In her role as mother, she taught the Gospel and the Bible (and Algebra) to Ben and Beth; always bearing fruit and showing the love of Christ. Mary and Mike were married on August 13, 1977. Mike has been a stalwart caregiver to Mary throughout her illness; joyfully fulfilling his vows and loving her always. Mike’s hard and faithful work, through God’s grace and provision, has given Mary many years of comfort and love during her long passing. The family would like to especially thank Sandy Hines, Connie Bullock, and Donna Cooper for the compassionate and skilled care they have provided in the last few years. You have been God’s gracious provision for Mary and Family. We thank you. We are comforted knowing that Mary is breathing the air of Heaven and after so many years, her mind now fully restored, she is standing before our God as a faithful servant.2 Corinthians 12:9-10 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
Visitation will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in Scottsboro, AL April 16, 2024 from 1pm to 3pm with a memorial service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Turning Point Pregnancy Center would be appreciated.
