Mary Bedford Simmons, 89, passed away April 28, 2024, at Magnolia Manor, Tupelo, MS. Born in Tupelo, MS in 1935, she graduated from Tupelo High School and was a classmate of Elvis Presley. She attended IJC after high school. On June 4, 1953, she married Thomas Simmons and together they had 4 daughters. She was a member of Endville Baptist Church, and she spent numerous hours reading, embroidering, and doing needlework.
Survivors include her daughters, Patricia Wilson (Robert) of Brewer, Barbara Bryant of Bruce, and Martha Dye (Wayne) of Belden; her son-in-law, Jeff Short; her grandchildren, Tiffany Vaughan (Will), Amanda Wilson, Melissa Parker (Keith), Chris Devall (Stephanie), Nic Dye, and Emily Newell (Jered); 10 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Dorothy Cochran; brother, Bob Bedford; and her daughter, Susan Short.
Services will be Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at 4PM with visitation beginning at 2PM at Baldwin Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Rev. Bobby Holland officiating and Bro. Robert Wilson assisting. Burial will follow in Pontotoc Memorial Garden. Baldwin Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Dye, Jeff Short, Will Vaughan, Eli Vaughan, Chris DeVall, Kennon Parker, Miles Dye, and Keith Parker. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jered Newell, Nic Dye, and Owen Vaughan.
