Mary Ann Penny, age 85, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 3rd, 2023. Mrs. Penny passed away at Gadsden Regional Medical Center in Gadsden, AL surrounded by family.
Mrs. Penny is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Basil Penny; daughter Michele (Rod) Williams; four grandchildren: Jeremy (Kelli) Penny, Lindsey (Tyler) Straits, Nicole Penny, and Jacob Williams (Leyden); five great grandchildren: Madelyn Penny, Chase Penny, Emersyn Straits, Ainsleigh Straits, and Della Straits; several nieces and nephews, and dear brother-in-law, Marvin “Bud” Simmons, and beloved daughter-in-law Norma Penny Mrs. Penny is preceded in death by her parents, George and Florence Love; four siblings: Bobby Love, Stanley Love, Paul Love, and Deborah Love; and loving son Trent Penny.
Mary Ann was born on September 23rd, 1937 in Piedmont, Alabama. She was a loving, supportive, kind, compassionate, wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and devout Christian. Mary Ann spent most of her life, 35 years, dedicated to loving and selflessly serving others through her passion of nursing.
Mary Ann enjoyed spending time with family and dear friends. She loved and cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She took great pride in being called “Granny.” She said, “Everyone needs a Granny.” She loved watching her favorite shows such as, the Andy Griffith show, Matlock, and the Golden Girls. Mary Ann was an avid Alabama fan and loved to follow the Atlanta Braves.
In their 63 years of marriage, Basil and Maryann set a beautiful example of a loving family dynamic for generations to follow. They enjoyed the fun things in life such as, square dancing, gospel singings, traveling and of course Friday nights at the Wagon Wheel.
To have loved Granny, and been loved by Granny, was the greatest gift. She will be truly missed.
A graveside service will be held by family and friends at Piedmont Memory Gardens at 10:00AM, Sunday, August 6th.
