Born on July 28, 1947, in Pensacola, Florida, Mary Ann touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege to know her.

She completed her high school education at Kingsbury High in Memphis and attended Draughons Business College.  She went to St. James and Sacred Heart Catholic schools and was a member of Sacred Heart church and St. Mary’s Church.

Embarking on a career in customer service, she worked in the family owned “Wayne’s Shoes” on historic Beale Street.  She served for years at Rockwell International in Memphis, retiring from Porter Cable in Jackson in 2004.  Her dedication to helping others and her innate ability to empathize made her an exceptional professional.

She loved to play softball and was on parochial league #1 junior all-stars, playing in different leagues throughout her life.

Mary Ann was a member at Elks Lodge #192 and had a passion for cooking.  She was a proud member of Porter Cable Piglets and Superior Smokers World Championship Bar B Q teams.

She loved boating and weekends on the Tennessee River with family and friends.  She cheered for her grandson at every school ballgame and loved the camaraderie while rooting for the Knights.  In her retirement, she enjoyed trips to New York, Rome, Sicily, Malta, and Italy.

Mary Ann was devoted to her family and friends. She treasured moments spent with them and nurtured deep connections that lasted a lifetime. Her father, Troy Wayne Carpenter and mother, Sebastiana Marie Carpenter were not only loving parents but also sources of inspiration in Mary Ann’s life.

Mary Ann’s legacy lives on through her son Kevin (Alicia) Greer, her grandson, Riley Greer, a dear friend who felt like a sister, Angie Stidham Smith (Steve), and her best friend for many years, Cynthia Strickland. Her love and memory will forever be imprinted on their hearts.  She is also survived by family in Memphis, Maryland, and Italy.

Mary Ann Carpenter Greer’s spirit will live on through the stories and memories shared by all who knew her. While her physical presence may be missed, her love and kindness will continue to inspire us all.

The family would like to say a special thank you to her caregivers:  Karen Conner, Michele Canolis, Mary Price, Jeannette Dennis, Sonya Dance, Judy Nichols, and Janice Hopper.

Since Mary Ann had a love for animals and rescued several dogs in her lifetime, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Mary Ann’s name to a local pet rescue organization of your choice.

The memory of Mary Ann will be celebrated during services held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Jackson, Tennessee. A visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 11:40 AM on January 20, 2024, at the church. This will be followed by a Rosary gathering from 11:40 AM to 12:00 PM. A Mass will then be held at 12:00 PM to honor her life and offer prayers for her eternal peace.
