Mary Alice “ Shorty” Gaither Grissom, 85, died Sunday, July 20,2014 at her home after a brief illness. She was born June 24, 1929, to E.B. “ Burgess” Gaither and Ethel Sandlin Gaither. She was a member of the Fulton United Methodist Church. She graduated from Itawamba Agriculture High School and attended the opening year of Itawamba Junior College. She enjoyed her retirement years, especially gardening, socializing with friends, and looking after her dog,Tutu, and numerous chickens.
Services will be at 11:00 a. m. Wednesday at the McNeece – Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Phillip Box officiating. Burial will be in Fulton Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband of sixty-five years, Carl C. “ Skeet” Grissom; one daughter, Barbara Justice (Mike) of Madison,MS; two grandchildren, Mary Beth Barnes (Coleman) of Oxford, Ohio, and Ben Justice ( Georgia) of Bay Springs, MS; two great grandchildren, Caroline Barnes and William Barnes; one brother, Ralph Gaither ( Earlene) of Marietta,GA; numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred Gaither, Charles Gaither, and Stanley Gaither; two sisters, Dessie Wayne McElroy and Marjorie Spradling; and her parents.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 Tuesday night at the funeral home.
