Mary Alice Pedersen, 87, passed away Monday, October 29, 2018, at her daughter’s home in Mansfield, Texas. She was born February 16, 1931, in Tremont to John Chesser “Johnny” and Alice Pauline Thomas Jones. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She lived across the United States before settling down between Texas and her native Mississippi. She worked many years as a keypunch operator and later owned and operated the Pizza Shoppe in New Albany where she enjoyed putting her culinary talents and people skills to good use. An exceptional cook, she enjoyed preparing large meals for her family and had a special place in her heart for animals.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, November 2, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with her nephew Bro. Joseph Jones officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include her daughter and caregiver, Terri Pirillo of Mansfield, TX; her son, Ricky L. Shoup (Melinda) of Hickory Flat; a daughter-in-law, Mary Oatsvall of Tremont; one sister, Polly Marsh (Bill) of Houghton Lake, MI; two brothers, Lowell R. “Bud” Jones (Dorothy) of Winthrop Harbor, IL, and Jerry R. “Mousey” Jones of Fulton; 14 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dale L. Shoup in 1969; her husband Erik W. Pedersen in 1986; her son Phillip Paul “Mickey” Oatsvall in 2017; her son-in-law Patsy C. Pirillo in 2015; her parents; five brothers, William W. “Jack” Jones (Imogene), J.C. Jones, Billy T. Jones (Nell), Jimmy W. Jones (Brenda), and Joe D. Jones (Maxine); and a great-grandson, Lester Paul Oatsvall III.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home.
