Marvin Thomas "Jack" CorneliusMarvin Thomas “Jack” Cornelius, 77, of Leighton, passed away Friday, July 7, 2023. Visitation will be Monday, July 10th, from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel with Brother Larry Smart officiating. Interment will be at Glendale Cemetery.

Jack was a lifelong resident of Colbert County and was a retired fireman and security guard for Reynolds Metals Company and Wise Alloys. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam and a member of the American Legion Post 31. Jack was also a member of Leighton Baptist Church. Jack never met a stranger and had many wonderful friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Donivan Hagwood; parents, Grover and Lela Cornelius; brother, C.L. Cornelius; and father and mother-law, Vester and Martha Hallmark.

Jack is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jo Cornelius; daughter, Stacey Taylor (Richard); grandchildren, Ashlyn Southern (Josh), Logan Wisdom, Josie Wisdom, Richard Taylor, Jr., Destiny Taylor, Kara Taylor, and Abby Taylor; great-grandchildren, Jaydenn, Jaycee, and Jameson Southern; nephew, Lyle Cornelius; niece, Dawn Cornelius; and all those who served with him in the A Battery 1st Battalion 44th Artillery Division.

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Melvin Box, Jerry Posey, Jim Tontrup, and Paul Thompson.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
