Marvin Talmadge Wilkes, Sr. was born August 30, 1922 in Selmer, TN the son of the late Eugene and Pearl Robertson Wilkes. Mr. Wilkes departed this life on June 6, 2014 in Selmer at the age of 91 Years, 9 Months, 7 Days.
He was united in marriage to Clarice Kizer on June 21, 1942.
Mr. Wilkes retired as Operating Superintendent for Pickwick Electric Cooperative in Selmer after 40 years of service. He was a member of Selmer First Baptist Church. Marvin served his country Honorably in the United States Army during World War II. He was a T-Tank Driver in the 808th Tank Destroyers under the command of General Patton and received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 3 Bronze Battle Stars.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 72 years, Clarice Wilkes of Selmer, TN; a son, Ronald Gene Wilkes of Hernando, MS; a brother, Billy Gene Wilkes of Oakland, TN; five grandchildren, Jill (Wilkes) Hopper, Shane Wilkes, Scott Wilkes, Brian Wilkes, Stacey (Wilkes) Moultre; 5 Great Grandchildren, 6 Step Great Grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Wilkes was preceded in death by two sons, Marvin Talmadge Wilkes, Jr., Thomas Ernest Wilkes; a sister, Ruby McCullar; a brother, L. G. Wilkes.
