Marvin McKissick left this world on March 5, 2018 for his final home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was 88 years old. He enjoyed his last 54 years as the husband of Carole McKissick and they shared their love for their five sons: Gary McKissick (Deborah), Johnny McKissick (Sharon), Steve Funderburk (Aida), Marty Funderburk and Ricky Funderburk (Teka). They were also blessed with nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Marvin, the son of Ada Bell (Pettigrew) and Grady McKissick, was the youngest of five brothers: Carl, Billy, Buddy and James. He graduated at the top of his class from Saltillo High School in 1948. Then, after 17 years at Rockwell International, he studied to become a USDA inspector and retired after 27 years at Bryan Foods. He also served on the Wren Water Board for over 10 years in every capacity.
His love of the Bible guided him throughout his life. He studied The Scriptures daily and taught Sunday School for many years. He also loved Southern Gospel music and had collaborated in writing two published songs.
His hobbies included gardening, woodworking and bowling. A quiet man, Marvin was quick to listen and slow to speak but when he did, his words were wise and often peppered with humor. He was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Services will be 3 PM Sunday, March 10, 2019, at Central Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Dennis Smithey officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. Visitation will be 1 – 3 Sunday at the church. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Glen Redd, John Ira Smith, Jean Doss and the men of Central Grove Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sanctuary Hospice House.
