Funeral for Marvin Golden, 84, of Decatur will be today, August 26, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby Ray Halbrooks officiating. Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Golden died on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at River City Center. He was born April 20, 1931, in Cartersville, Georgia, to Grady Lee Golden and Susie Mae Fraser Golden. Mr. Golden was a press operator for Wolverine Tube prior to his retirement. He served in the National Guard during the Korean War. He will be remembered for his over 20 years of coaching youth baseball, softball and football. He helped organize and coach the first pee-wee football team in Hartselle. Mr. Golden played football for the lengendary coach, H.L. “Shorty” Ogle, at Decatur High School from 1947-1949, playing on three undefeated teams. He graduated from Decatur High School in 1949 and was inducted into the Morgan County Sports Hall of Fame in 2010. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Gibson Golden; his parents; two brothers, Bobby and Allen Golden; and a sister, Miruim Golden Howard.
Survivors include two sons, Dale Golden(Patsey), Lexington, KY and Harry Golden (Amy), Hartselle; one daughter, Lisa Halbrooks (Harlon), Hartselle; one sister, Jenny Lovin, Decatur; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Gideons International.
