MarvinRev. Marvin Edward Wilkins, 65, of Rogersville died Saturday, March 1, 2014, at his residence.

Visitation will be Monday, March 3, 2014, from 6-8 PM at Elkins East Chapel.  Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Rogersville at 2 PM, with Rev. Paul Tucker and Rev. Pat Driskel officiating.  He will lie in state from 1-2.  Burial will follow at Civitan Cemetery.

Rev. Wilkins was an ordained minister of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and pastored churches in Tennessee, Mississippi, Kentucky, and Texas.  He received his BA in English and Philosophy at Bethel College and attended Memphis Thiological Seminary in Memphis, Tennessee.  He was a member of the Lion’s Club. He was an active participant in ministerial associations in various cities, other community services included organizing a crisis helpline, giving assistance to the elderly with precriptions and heating expenses, and serving the board of directors of the Safe-House for Abused Spouses.  He loved fishing, hunting, and growing daylilies.

Rev. Wilkins was preceded in death by his father Rev. Marvin O. Wilkins; mother, Tommie Owens Wilkins; sister, Judith Wilkins; brother, Rev. Thomas O. Wilkins; brother-in-law, James R. Sims.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Dianne S. Wilkins; two daughters, H. Dawn Wilkins and Misty Wilkins Stoope (Jeff); sister, Brenda Wilkins Guthrie (Charles Ray); sister-in-law, Jane Sims; nieces and nephews, Frank Guthrie, Mandy Guthrie Marsh, Chris G. Sims, and Jami Sims Carroll; four great nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Mandy Guthrie Marsh, Chris G. Sims, Jason Alan Carroll, Dylan Travis Moore, Bill Skelton, and Wayne Tosh.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Elders of Hohenwald, Tennessee Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to either the Freedom House of Rogersville or the American Cancer Society.
