Mr. Marvin A. Lathum, age 63, of Springville, Alabama, passed away at St. Vincent East Hospital, Birmingham, Alabama on Tuesday, February 14, 2023. Mr. Lathum was born on January 22, 1960 to Jess (Bug) Lathum, Jr. and Ola Lathum in Walker County, Alabama. He was married to Libby Denise Black Lathum for over 36 years.
He has been a resident of Springville since 1993 and was of the Baptist faith. Marvin was employed by and retired from Hardie Tynes Company Machine Shop where he worked in quality control.
Marvin was a man with many interests. He was a true outdoorsman. He thoroughly enjoyed exploring God’s country with his wife and his beloved cocker spaniels, Bandit and Honey. In his younger and healthier years he spent many hours hunting, camping and collecting “stuff.” He didn’t stop there! He loved Auburn University, his Livingston University Family, telling jokes and making people laugh.
Left to cherish memories of Marvin is his wife, Libby Black Lathum; brother, Eldridge Lathum (Betty); sister, Margaret Lathum; brother-in-laws, Stok Black (Rhonda) and Mark Black (Cindi); and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Family preceding Marvin in death: his parents, Jess and Ola Lathum, and sister, Wonda O’Rear.
Funeral services for Mr. Lathum will be Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Brother Frank Whitaker will officiate the service at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends and family at a visitation service Friday, February 17, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. also at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel.
Escorting Mr. Lathum to his final resting place in Gilliam Springs Cemetery, Arab, Alabama will be Hunter Black, Houston Black, Seth Black, Kevin Tucker, Elston Lathum, Ricky Wilson, and John Shipley. Honorary pallbearers are Ronny Shumate, Wade Sanders and Soloman Jallath.
