Martha RockDr. Martha Sue Rock passed away on August 28 th , 2023 after a brief illness. Martha was born in March 1946 in Ohio. Upon graduation from high school, Martha obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Alderson-Broaddus College and began working as a registered nurse. In 1973, she graduated from Ohio State University with a Master of Science in Nursing and soon started working as a nursing instructor and professor. Her tenure as a professor led her to schools in Ohio, West Virginia, New York, and Japan. Dr. Rock completed her Doctor of
Philosophy degree from the University of Delaware with a concentration in family studies in 1992. Dr. Rock was an accomplished scholar and professor. In 1981, she was the recipient of the American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year award for her co-authorship of The Well
Family: A Developmental Assessment Approach. Additionally, she received multiple grants and awards throughout her time as a professor in the Northeast. She also presented at multiple conferences and was a published author. In 2001, Dr. Rock along with her husband, moved to
Florence, AL where she was employed as a nursing professor at the University of North Alabama until her retirement in 2020.

Martha is survived by her husband, Bob, and numerous friends and colleagues. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Martha Finkel.

Her funeral will be held at Woodward Avenue Baptist Church in Muscle Shoals, AL on Sunday, September 17 with pastor Tyler Armstrong officiating. A visitation will be held from 2-3 pm with the funeral starting at 3 pm.
