Martha Oswald Parker – Obituary

Martha Oswald Parker, 91, of Whiteville, passed away Monday evening, January 25, 2016 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

She was born Wednesday, September 10, 1924 to the late George W. and Willie Hardee Oswald in Mercer, TN. She graduated from Mercer High School with the class of 1940. She lived there until the mid-1940s when, on August 24, 1946, she married Norvis Parker and moved to Whiteville. Mrs. Parker worked as a beautician with Anneva Tisdale before opening her own parlor in Whiteville. She was a member of the Whiteville First United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday school for several years. She also enjoyed restoring antiques and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Dianne Timmons of Sioux City, IA; her son, Stan Parker (Karen) of Jackson, TN; two grandchildren, John Timmons (Donna) and Joel Parker (Jaclyn); and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret, Dot, and Margie and son-in-law, Max Timmons.
