Martha Nell Arnold, 87, of Scottsboro passed away on September 11th after a long and fulfilling life.

Martha was born on September 23, 1936 in Woodville, Alabama. She was the daughter of Herman and Lexie Campbell. She had one older sister, Faye, who has spent the majority of her life in Scottsboro and now lives in Huntsville near her grandchildren.

Martha graduated from Jackson County high school in 1954 and later attended lab technician studies in Chicago, Illinois. She met her husband, Bernie, there who was then training in the Air Force.

They eventually married later that year and, throughout their 70 year marriage, have been privileged to honor his military service living in a number of places around the world, After retiring in Warner Robins, Georgia, they eventually relocated back to this area. They have resided here in Scottsboro ever since aside from a brief time enjoying a second residence in Sevierville, Tennessee before moving permanently back here in 2022.

They adopted two children during their early years of marriage: Angie, who was adopted in England and Randy, who was adopted later on after they returned stateside to live in New Hampshire.

Throughout these years, Martha always enjoyed serving others in any number of ways, From volunteering as a candy-striper nursing assistant in a military hospital to volunteering as a school nurse and other areas of service in between, she always sought out and gave passionately to a variety of opportunities. She had a strong passion for painting and spent many years enjoying that hobby when she could. In retirement, she and Bernie both worked ardently with the local chapter of the American Legion and Ladies Auxiliary working tirelessly to honor and promote the many veterans who faithfully served this country

She is survived by her husband, Bernie Arnold, her sister Faye Berry, her daughter Angie Gant (Hank Frazier), her son Randy Arnold, her granddaughter Tiffany Bridges Jones, her granddaughter Kelsey Porter (Pierce), and her two great grandsons Cooper and Carter Jones.

In her final years Martha sadly suffered from the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s disease. She fought the good fight for way too long and went to her resting place in Heaven quietly. The family is so appreciative of the love and support received by so many and would like to convey there will be no formal memorial services planned. In lieu of traditional sympathies we simply ask that you consider extending your heartfelt support to a charity of your choosing.
