Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Mitchum Smith, age 79, will be Sunday July 21, 2024 at 3:00 PM in the Shelton-Hunt Funeral Home Chapel with visitation with the family beginning at 1:00 PM until Service time. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Humboldt, Tennessee.
Mrs. Smith passed away Wednesday after a brief illness.
Mrs. Smith was a member of Humboldt Church of Christ. Services will be conducted by Brent Smith of Trenton Church of Christ.
Mrs. Smith recently retired from AT&T with 65 years of service. She began her career with Southern Bell in 1965 in Trenton, Tennessee, and later in offices in Humboldt, Tennessee, Jackson, Tennessee, Memphis, Tennessee and finally in Birmingham, Alabama.
Mrs. Smith graduated from Humboldt High School with the class of 1963. She remained friends with her classmates attending class reunions and other activities.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, William (Buddy) Smith; her parents, John Will Mitchum, Sr. and Mrs. Mina Russell Mitchum; and a brother, John Will (Bud) Mitchum Jr.
She is survived by her sister, Ruth S. Maxwell; nieces, Rita Walters, Susan Caldwell, Alison McKnight and Melissa Mitchum and much loved great nieces and nephews.
