Martha Mayo Irwin – Obituary

Martha Mayo Irwin, 86, of Huntsville, passed away Friday.  Martha was born in Roanoke, VA. She graduated from Radford College in 1951 with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught in Arlington, VA for five years. She married Dausey B. Irwin in 1956. After moving to Huntsville, she taught school for 25 years at Westlawn Middle School and Whitesburg Middle School. She taught 6th grade math and ran the patrols.  Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Dausey B. Irwin and grandson, Zachary Smith.

Survivors include her daughter, Doris Smith (David Smith) of Huntsville; granddaughter, Dr. Holly Gipson (John Gipson) of Huntsville; grandson, Brandon Smith of Huntsville; sister, Katherine Schmidt of Palestine, TX; brother, Dr. Thomas Tabb Mayo IV (Elna Ann Mayo) of Hampton Sydney, VA. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Friday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow with David Kling officiating.  Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.  (www.laughlinservice.com)
