Martha “Marty” Frances Vinson Gilbert, 74, went to her heavenly home on Monday, February 12, 2024. She was born in Russellville, Alabama but spent most of her adult life in Tuscumbia, Alabama where she was a legal secretary for over thirty years. Marty was preceded in death by her mother, Mildred Pierce Vinson; her father, Bonnie Well Vinson; her grandson, Melvin Terrell Mercedez Gilbert; and her daughter, Kimberly Gilbert.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-six years, Charles Wheeler Gilbert, Jr.; children, Keith Gilbert (Cinda) and Katie Gilbert Spear (Carl); brothers, Ronald Vinson (Linda) and Dennis Vinson (Nancy); grandchildren, Lana Gilbert, Brittany Gilbert Jacobo (Francisco), Jordan Gilbert, Joel David Gilbert, Lee Russell Smith, III (“T.J.”), Kerrington Smith, Alexandra McCreary, Bowen Spear, Zara Spear, Roman Spear (Morgan) and Jurgen Spear; and great-grandchildren, Aiden, Zayn, Yara and Capri.
Marty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who enjoyed bowling, crocheting, gardening, birdwatching, baking cookies for her grandchildren and spending time with her family. To know Marty was a privilege, she was loved by all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed.
A visitation for Marty will be held from 12:30-2:00pm on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Morrison Funeral Home in Tuscumbia. The funeral service will begin at 2pm with the burial following at East Franklin Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Colbert County Animal Shelter as Marty truly had a heart for all animals.
