Martha Magnusson Hobbs Gatrell passed away peacefully on July 17, 2024, at the age of 90, in her hometown of Ardmore, Alabama. Born on December 5, 1933, in Ardmore, AL, she was a cherished member of the community and will be deeply missed.
Martha dedicated 37 years of service as a civil servant at Redstone Arsenal, where she worked as a management analyst for OMMCS. Her commitment to her career was paralleled by her devotion to her faith, as a long-time member of Piney Grove Baptist Church.
She was a woman of many passions, including crocheting, gardening, canning, and traveling. Above all, Martha loved spending time with her family, creating lasting memories with her loved ones.
Martha was predeceased by her father, Levi Magnusson: mother, Bessie Eckstein Magnusson: spouse, John Hobbs Jr.; and brother, Bill Magnusson. She is survived by her husband, Larry Gatrell: children, Debbie (Brad) Biggerstaff, Mark (Lisa) Hobbs, step-daughters, Maryann (Steve) Echols, Lee Gatrell; grandchildren, Brian (Amy) Biggerstaff, Brandi (Nathan) Ezell, Hannah (Aaron) Spencer; great-grandchildren, Austin Ezell, Gracie Collins, Levi Biggerstaff, Luke Ezell, Will Biggerstaff, John Spencer, Elisha Spencer, Ruth Spencer; step-grandchildren, James (Linn) Echols,; step-great-grandchildren, Lora Echols, Brett Echols: sister, Janie (John) Eubanks: brothers-in-law, Terry Gatrell, Jeff Gatrell: sisters-in-law Deggie Agar, Connie Magnusson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are being handled by Ardmore Funeral Home. Visitation will be at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home on Friday, July 19,2024, from 12:00 noon until 2:00 PM. A chapel Service will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in Gatlin Cemetery. Bro. Adam Mikel and Bro. Lynn Marshall will officiate the service.
Martha’s life and legacy will be honored in a ceremony reflecting on her impactful life and the love she shared with so many.
