Martha M. Lawson, 90, of New Market, Alabama, passed away on July 6, 2024. Martha was born in Overton, Texas to John and Ona Moreland on October 1, 1933. She went to high school at Ensley High School and had worked at Alabama Power prior to marrying her husband. After his passing, she worked for a few years for the United States Army at Redstone.
She enjoyed crocheting afghans for all her grandkids and great-grandkids. She cherished AGAPE of North Alabama and St. Jude’s Childrens Hospitals. She was a Christian and was a member of Union Grove Church of Christ.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Carl Lawson, her sister, Elizabeth Cooner, and by her parents, John & Ona Moreland.
Surviving family members include her sons and daughters-in-law: Dennis & Janet Lawson, Greg & Tammy Lawson, and Richard & Diana Lawson; Her grandchildren: Craig & Lauren Lawson, Jonathan & Jaclyn Lawson, Blake & Christina Lawson, Jay & Carissa Grayson, Alyssa & Micah Long, and Meredith & Jeff Porter. She is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren and by many friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday beginning at 10AM at Chase Park Church of Christ. Funeral services will follow at 11:30AM at the church with Brother Pat Cowden and Brother Ben May officiating. Following the church service, entombment will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
