Martha Lambert Profile Photo  Martha Layne Lambert was born on March 21, 1937 in Hardin County, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Fredrick Raymond and Ressie Mae Phillips Lee.

On December 20, 1954, she was united in marriage to Kenneth D. Lambert, who preceded his wife in death on December 23, 2005.

Despite being legally blind from the age of 3, Martha Layne Lambert served tirelessly until her feeble body would no longer allow for such. She worked at Brown Shoe Factory for 18 years and on the family farm next to her husband, Kenneth, for many more. She sold produce for years to hundreds of customers. It was something she truly enjoyed. Almost as much as she enjoyed traveling with her sisters and watching March Madness.

You see, like her mother, Martha was an exceptional conversationalist. She loved talking on the phone and visiting everyone for hours. One of her favorite past time hobbies was going to Walmart because she was bound to run into at least one person she knew. Martha had a great sense of humor and always told it like it was. That honesty gained her many friends, young and old, due to being so funny in her conversations. Martha faced many challenges, as her physical body continuously let her down. Though, through the pain and suffering, her spunky spirit remained, always, no matter what. She relentlessly fought to stay on this earth. She loved life, and more than that, the people in her life.

Martha’s pride and joy were her grandchildren and daughter. She was the happiest with them. She was able to be present watching them grow up and be a part of their ball games and other events in their lives. She was so proud of them and their accomplishments. She tuned into every game on her I-pad, shared every Facebook post, and bragged on them every chance she had. Her love for them was not like any other. She dedicated her entire existence to ensuring their happiness. This could range from an “I love you, baby” to fixing a Red Baron’s pizza or peanut butter sandwich at one in the morning. For them, with her, there was nothing she would not do.

Martha Layne Lambert departed this life on Friday, April 14, 2023 in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 86 years and 14 days.

She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Stricklin and her husband Stacey of Savannah, Tennessee; grandchildren, Cailin Stricklin, Sarah Stricklin, and Riley Stricklin; sisters, Barbara (Shoppie) Shelley and her husband Richard of Counce, Tennessee and Carolyn Sharp and her husband Prentiss of Olive Branch, Mississippi; and sister in law, Kathy Hurst of Selmer, Tennessee.
