Funeral Services for Mrs. Martha Jean Stanford, age 87 of Ashland, will be on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Shiloh Baptist Church at 12:00 P.M. with Rev. Kenneth Fuller and Rev. Randy Stanford officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

Mrs. Stanford passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at the Clay County Nursing Home. Mrs. Stanford was a lifelong resident of Clay County, and after graduating from Clay County High School, Class of 1951, she worked at Higgins Manufacturing for a number of years, and also as a lunchroom worker and as a Poultry Farmer. She enjoyed hosting family reunions, cooking for her Sunday night family dinners, and cooking doughnuts and candy with her grandchildren. Mrs. Stanford also enjoyed sewing and making stuffed dolls, bears, cows, etc for her grandchildren. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Mrs. Stanford also enjoyed going to and participating in sacred harp singing.

She is survived by one daughter, Cathy Stanford Colburn (Victor); two sons: Steve Stanford (Debrah) and Stanley Stanford (Kathleen), all of Ashland; 7 grandchildren: Joseph Stanford (Heather), Jeremy Stanford (Caitlin), Jenna Brown (Mark), Jamie Watts (Neil), Ashley Williams (Basil), Stephanie Tobin (Koty), and Randy Stanford (Elizabeth), and 14 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Joseph Isaac Tinney and Mildred Mozelle Denney Tinney; her husband, Harold Clayton Stanford; one brother, Melvin Tinney; and one sister, Nettie Gaye Haggerty;

Active Pallbearers will be Joseph Stanford, Jeremy Stanford, Mark Brown, Neil Watts, Basil Williams, Koty Tobin, and Randy Stanford.

Her visitation will take place on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Shiloh Baptist Church from 11:00 until service time at 12:00 P.M.

Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.
