Martha Evelyn Black Puckett, 83, passed away Thursday morning, February 21, 2013. She is survived by one sister, Magdalene Powell; three sons, Charles Guin (Carol), Gerald Alan (Jennifer), all of Decatur, and James Richard (Kim) of New River, Arizona; nine grandchildren, Megan McCulley, David Guin Puckett II, Lindsay Lucas, Joshua Daniel Puckett, Andrew Paul Puckett, Rosemary Ellen Puckett, Ruth Ann Puckett, Martha Lillian Puckett and Silas Puckett; and seven great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Guin Puckett; three children, David Guin Jr. and twins, Theresa and Andrew; one sister, Anna Pearl Pruett; and two brothers, Richard Black and Reverend Roy Black.
Mrs. Puckett was born to parents, Silas and Irene Black in the Bankhead Forest, where her father was a forest ranger. She grew up in Moulton and later in Decatur, where she graduated from Riverside High. She later attended Athens College. She worked for many years as secretary and later as purchasing agent for Willo Products Company, and also as an executive assistant at First State Bank. She was an avid gardener and bridge player.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home. Funeral will be at 3 p.m. with Father Ray Remke officiating. Burial will follow in Hartselle City Cemetery.
