Martha Elizabeth “Betty Jo” McMeans age 89 of Florence passed away on Wednesday December 17, 2014. Visitation will be on Saturday, December 27, 2014 from 12:00 P.M. till 2:00 P.M. at Elkins Funeral Home of Florence. Services will follow at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel with Robert Sparkman officiating. Burial will be at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. McMeans was preceded in death by her husband Maurice C. McMeans Sr., granddaughter, Alice Carol McMeans, and her parents Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Cope.
She is survived by her daughter, Martha Jeanette Battcher (James). Son, Maurice C. McMeans Jr. (Judy). Three grandchildren; James W. Battcher Jr. (Diane), Christopher Carson McMeans (Melissa) and Steven Maurice McMeans. One great-grandchild, Haley. Two nieces and two nephews.
Betty Jo graduated high school from Brewers High School in Brewers, Ky. She was a member for over 60 years of the First United Methodist Church of Florence as well as her involvement with the Mary Douglass Bender Sunday School Class. She was a accomplished seamstress and worked for many years at Rogers Dept Store in the alteration dept.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
