Martha Dean Haynie Shelton, 87, a lifelong resident of Montgomery, Ala., passed away Sept. 7, 2012, in a local hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Harold Shelton Sr.; mother, Mattie Nolen Haynie; father, Orris Newton Haynie; and brother, Orris Fancher Haynie.
Survivors are her children, Kitty Jones (Hollis), Montgomery, Patty Collier (Keith Sr.), Florence, Teresa Hodge (Mickey), Wetumpka, Sandra Shelton (daughter-in-law), Destin, Fla., Bill Shelton (Sam), Marietta, Ga., Robert Shelton (Sharon), Prattville; grandchildren, Kelly Wilson (Steve), Montgomery, Jennifer Capps (James), Montgomery, Julie Blankenship, Pike Road, Wendy Rentz (Wes), Dallas, Texas, Angela Cole (Clay), Mathews, Brittany NesSmith (Scott), Birmingham, Carrie Hodge, Birmingham, Kayla Shelton, Montevallo, Jeffery Jones (Caroline), Florence, Scott Shelton, Prattville, Nicole Spiller, Sharpsburg, Ga., Angela Shields, Birmingham, Keith Collier Jr., Florence; great-grandchildren, Haley Wilson, Mae Morgan Blankenship, Macie Wilson, Caroline Capps, Catie Capps, Ann Shelton NesSmith, Mitchell Wilson, Bennett Blankenship, James Bryant Cole.
Mrs. Shelton was born at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Montgomery. She was a member of the National Association of Securities Dealers, member of the Zonta Club, president of Alabama School for Deaf Parents Teacher Association (1978-1979) and president of Seton Haven Guild (1999) and a member of the First Baptist Church of Montgomery and the Joy Singers.
Funeral services will be at Leak Memory Chapel at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, with burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10. Active pallbearers will be Steve Wilson, Clay Cole, Scott NesSmith, John Haynie, Richard Stallworth and James Capps.
