Marlin “Bud” Coffey – Obituary

Funeral for Marlin “Bud” Coffey, 74, of Decatur will be Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016 at noon at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor Marvin McCormick and Reverend Sandra Locke-Godbey officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Coffey died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016, at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born Nov. 24, 1941, in Courtland to Clifton “Click” Coffey and Sadie Thompson Coffey. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dwight Coffey and sister, Kay Terry.

He is survived by his loving wife, Anita King Coffey; two sons, Thomas Coffey (Kristi) of West Blocton and Michael David Coffey (Kristie) of Gardendale; one daughter, Tonya Coffey Hill of Moulton; 14 grandchildren, Justin, Clay, Brandon, Ronnie, Clint, Ryan, Nick, Kyndal, Logan, Cassie, Josh, Allie, Christian and Micah; and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Coffey graduated from Decatur High School in 1960, joined the Navy and retired after 30 years. He loved working with Habitat for Humanity and specialized in painting. He was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, and made many mission trips. The youth affectionately called him “Vern.” He is also survived by his “girls” Lizzie and Wiggles.

Pallbearers will be friends of the “Over the Hill Gang” from Habitat for Humanity.
