Marlene Marie McMillen, age 89, of Athens, Alabama, originally from Virginia, passed away on Friday June 9th, 2023, at her residence. She was born on January 6th, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan to Theodore William Grunst and Sally Petsch Grunst.
Marlene is survived by several nieces and nephews, a special friend and caregiver Pam Davis and many special friends.
Marlene is preceded by her parents, four sisters, Doris June, Joyous, Eunice and Darlene as well as two brothers Jay Lee and Ted “Buddy”.
Marlene was an extraordinary, classy lady. Always happiest when giving and sharing with her friends.
She lived a full life, working all over the United States, moving to Alabama in 2016 from Virginia, where she met numerous friends. She took care of her sister, Darlene, until her death in 2018.
One of the greatest loves of her life was her animals, most of which were rescues. Charlie, her loving Westie, was always by her side until he passed away. After the passing of her sister Darlene, Marlene became very lonely. At this time, she opened her heart and her home to another precious rescue, a Chihuahua she named Angel. Angel came to live with Marlene on Darlene’s birthday, making this event even more significant and special. Angel and Marlene were like two peas in a pod, inseparable, and loving each other dearly.
She had a passion for fresh cut flowers, which special nieces and loving friends made sure she had at all times.
A special thanks to her caregivers, whom in a short period of time won her heart and theirs. Thanks to Hospice of Limestone County for all your time and help. Just to mention a few; Tracy, Jennifer, bath ladies, Chaplin and music ministry. It couldn’t have been possible without you and your kind hearts.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County 405 S Marion Street Athens Alabama 35611 or to your favorite animal rescue.
