Mark Whitten, age 71, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at his residence. He was born Wednesday, October 1, 1952, to John and Betty Whitten. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Michael Whitten, and brother-in-law, Phil Luker.
Mr. Whitten graduated from Cullman High School in 1970 and the University of Alabama in 1974. After college, Mark returned to Cullman where he spent his career in the car business.
Mark loved motorcycles and golf, and after he was no longer able to participate in these hobbies, he took up woodworking building many bird houses that he shared with family and friends. Mark handled his challenges in life with dignity and grace.
Mr. Whitten is survived by his wife of 41 years, Cynthia Whitten, sister Suzanne Luker, sister-in-law Beverly McKenzie, nieces Monica (Brian) Williams, Liza (Fred) Padilla, nephews Whitt (Kara) Luker, Addison (Peyton) Weeks, great nieces Sophie, Ella and Lydia Williams, Reese and Ryan Padilla and his beloved canine companions Flip and Gussie.
A special thank you to Mark’s family at 1519 St. Joseph Street who loved and supported him on his journey to serenity and peace.
Great appreciation is extended to Dr. Vincent Karolewics, and staff at Life First, Hope Hospice nurses Crystal Calvert, Jada Jones and Gigi and to special angel Laura Johnson.

A brief graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Cullman City Cemetery with John Garrison officiating.
