Mark Lee Estes of Panama City Beach, FL, 64, passed away Friday, August 9th. Mark was born in Gadsden, Alabama and graduated from Piedmont High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Alabama.
After college Mark began work for Teledyne Brown Engineering in Huntsville and supported the NASA/MSFC Engineering Directorate as a Thermal Analyst for over 25 years. He very much enjoyed working with colleagues among other contractors and NASA/MSFC in support of the US Space Program.
After retiring from Jacobs Engineering, he continued to live in Huntsville until 2022. The last three years of his life were spent in the Florida panhandle. Mark was an avid golfer and won multiple tournaments. He loved seafood and Alabama football. Most of all he loved his two twin girls, Emily and Rachel. Over the last few years of his life, he was blessed with wonderful caregivers from Senior Helpers in Huntsville and Blessings After Blessings in Panama City Beach, FL.
Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Ellie Sue Estes, father, Maurice Estes, and sister, Lynn Hodges. He is survived by his brothers, Maury Estes (Sue), Inlet Beach, FL, and Ken Estes (Kay), Johnson City, TN; children, Rachel Estes, Florence, AL, Emily Estes, Huntsville, AL; and a number of nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville. There will be a graveside service at Shady Grove Congregational Methodist Church near Piedmont, AL on Thursday August 15 at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Parkinson’s Foundation, the Ark Animal Shelter, or A New Leash on Life.
