Marjorie Sue Spears, age 94, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS. She was born September 28, 1930, to William Marvin Ard and Mary Elizabeth Busby Ard. She worked for many years as North Pontotoc High School’s Cafeteria Supervisor. She was a faithful member of Hurricane Baptist Church for seventy-seven years and served as church pianist for over 46 years. She enjoyed cooking for her family, reading, bird watching, talking with her friends on the phone, and working in her flowers; however, what she has enjoyed the most over the years, was watching her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren play sports.
Services will be at 11:00am, Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Hurricane Baptist Church with Bro. Phillip Brock and Bro. Kevin Merritt officiating, burial will follow at Warren Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is honored to assist the Spears family with the arrangements.
Survivors include her two children, Mike Spears (Lynn) and Marquetta Spears ; three grandchildren, Buffie Butler (Ken), Shelly Carnes, and Brent Spears (Dana); four great grandchildren, Madison Hale (Chase), Mary Kate Butler, Caden Spears and Kelsy Spears; her brother, Billy Ard; and sister, Terrena Kyle (Carroll).
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lanion Q. Spears; and a sister-in-law, Theresa Ard.
Pallbearers will be Mitch Spears, Chad Spears, Blake Spears, Shane Ard, Scotty Kyle and Jay Kyle.
Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Hurricane Baptist Church, 7975 Highway 346, Pontotoc, MS 38863.
Memorials may be made to the Tabernacle Children’s Home in care of Hurricane Baptist Church.
