MONTGOMERY— The sheriffs’ offices of Marion and Winston counties will obtain new equipment with the help of grants totaling $19,993 awarded by Gov. Robert Bentley.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office will use a $9,999 grant to purchase a variety of equipment for deputies out on patrol.
With a $9,994 grant, the Winston County Sheriff’s Office will purchase eight body cameras and related equipment for deputies. The cameras will record interactions with residents, and the footage can be used for deputy training or as evidence in court.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants from funds made available by the U.S. Justice Department. ADECA administers an array of programs supporting law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, water resource management and recreation development.
Bentley notified Marion County Commission Chairman Bob Burleson and Winston County Commission Chairman Roger Hayes that he had approved the grants.
