Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Collier-Butler Funeral Chapel with Rev. Eddie Stevenson officiating. Burial will be at Rainbow Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Collier-Butler Funeral Home will direct.
Marion was a native and lifelong resident of Etowah County. He was an active member of Damascus Baptist Church, South Gadsden, and also the oldest member. Marion retired from the City of Gadsden after 53 years of service. He was the first person to work in the parks and recreation department in the 1950’s. He was also very instrumental in making Noccalula Falls what it is today. On October 26, 2021 a proclamation was made declaring October 26 Marion Wise Day. He enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and was sure to make every game that he could.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Douglas Wise and Mandy Coursey Wise; his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary Kate Wise; brothers, Billy Wise, Jackie Wise and sister, Dorothy Hieb.
Survivors include his children, Joel (Terry) Wise, Lisa (Ray) Pierce, Tami (Robert) Bjornson and Doug (Danielle) Wise; grandchildren, Josh Wise, Lyndsey (Wesley) McBrayer, Joshua Wise, Ashley (Cody) Tidwell, Dalton Amos, Hunter (Shawn) Sanders, Baylee (Tim) Blaylock, Brandi (Brandon) Burton and Justin (Hollie) Guffey; 9 great grandchildren and brother, Fred Wise, Jr., and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Josh Wise, Dalton Amos, Wesley McBrayer, Walker McBrayer, Cody Tidwell, Tim Blaylock, Shawn Sanders, Carl Johnson and Jimmy Sitz.
Honorary pallbearers will be his employees with the City of Gadsden that he loved so much.
The family extends a heartfelt thanks to Gentiva Hospice, Nurse Daphane Powell, caregivers, Jada Morgan, Brenda Parrish, Amber Street, Kendell Copeland and the ladies of Cracker Barrell.
