Marion Shayne Swint, 68 of Madison County, Alabama passed quietly on 15 December 2024 at home.

Shayne was born in Athens, Alabama on 8 Dec 1956 to Gordon Swint Sr. and Daisy (Posey) Swint. He was like a second father to his niece, Angela Faye Thornhill of Wilmington, NC. He is survived by his niece and his sister, Wilda (Whitt) Thornhill, also of Wilmington. He leaves behind extended family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Margaret A (Van Lear) Swint of Nashville, and brother, Gordon O’Bryan Swint Jr. of Athens.

He was an engineer and subject matter expert for nuclear thermal propulsion and in-space vehicle systems with NASA Marshall Space Flight Center. Over the course of his long 40+ year career with NASA, he made significant technical contributions, mentored many, and traveled near and far sharing his expertise.

Shayne retired from NASA Dec 2016 to become “CEO of My Future” and enjoy life. He took pleasure in travel, wood working, stained glass artistry, and driving his Corvette.

He deeply loved his wife. Shayne Swint married Sherry Thompson on 20 Jun 2002 in Madison County, Alabama and is survived by her.

Given his gentle and reserved nature, he did not wish to have a funeral service. Shayne’s cremains will be interred near his parents at Roselawn Cemetery in Athens.

He served on the Board of Directors for Hospice Family Care for six years including a term as President of the Board. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to make a donation to Hospice Family Care at 10000 Serenity Lane Huntsville, AL 35803, in his name.
