Marion (Jr.) Reece, Jr., age 85, of Columbia, Tennessee passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Jr. was born to the late Marion W. Reece and Eula Mae Pitts Reece on July 9, 1929 in Athens, Alabama. He and Mary Evelyn Thornton married on January 18, 1947. Jr. was a devoted husband. He worked for Union Carbide for over thirty-seven years and was known as a hard worker. He fixed and sold bicycles and took an interest in knife trading. Jr. was known as being a man of his word; it was true if he said it. He was very particular, everything had its place. He was a talker, a historian, and often told tales of the depression. Above all, Jr. loved discussing the Bible. He was always having fun and loved to have visitors. To his grandkids, he was known as “Opaw.”
The family will visit with friends on Saturday, July 12 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home. The celebration of Jr.’s life will immediately follow on Saturday, July 12 at 11:00 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home with Bro. Henry Mobley officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.
Jr. is survived by his loving wife Mary Evelyn Thornton Reece; his sons Larry D. Reece (Janice) and Johnny Randell Reece; daughter Susan Carol Reece Holder (Danny); sister Laura Putman; brother Vernon Reece; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Jr. is preceded in death by his parents Marion W. Reece and Eula Mae Reece, daughter Brenda June Reece Tosh, and son Jeffery Glenn Reece.
Pallbearers are Danny Holder, Patrick Prangie, John Reece, Perry Winters, and Cameron.
Honorary Pallbearers are past and present employees of Union Carbide.
