Marilyn Kaye Williams Alkire 79, of Huntsville passed Wednesday after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. Marilyn was born in Elkins, WV, graduating from Elkins High School.
Marilyn loved gardening and was active for several years in the Herb Society at the Botanical Gardens. She was an avid volunteer: volunteering as a Hostess at Colonial Williamsburg, VA; for the 1982 World’s Fair at Knoxville, TN; the 1996 Olympics on the Ocoee, in TN; the Big Spring Jam; and Trinity United Methodist Church as a greeter. She was blessed with the gift of hospitality and lead many to Christ. Her favorite pastime was dancing and did so two to three times a week.
She was preceded in death by daughter, Ashlea Suzanne Alkire Morrow; father, Nestor Ezra Williams; and mother, Edith Collins Williams. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, William “Bill” Alkire; son, W. Todd Alkire (Carolyn) of Madison; son-in-law, James Morrow of Byhalia, MS; grandchildren, Brandon Alkire (Auburn), Meghan Alkire (Alabama), Jimmy Morrow (Ole Miss), and Ben Morrow; sisters, Brenda Williams Finnerin (Dave) of Walker, WV, and Betsy Williams Harnden (Ted) of Beverly, WV, and relatives and friends in California, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, and Serbia.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
