Marilyn Hays Calvert of Owens Cross Roads, AL a dearly loved and adored wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend died on June 30, 2024 at Willow Brooke Skilled Care Center at Magnolia Trace in Huntsville, AL
Marilyn was a native of Cullman County AL having been born and raised in the New Hope Community of Holly Pond. She was a 1955 graduate of Holly Pond High School and attended Howard College in Birmingham where she met Perry Calvert. She and Perry were married on August 4, 1957. After moving back to Cullman in 1958 she continued her studies at The Sacred Heart College in Cullman. In 1966 she and Perry moved to Huntsville AL where they raised their two children and lived until 2004 when they built a home on her beloved family land in Holly Pond.
Prior to her retirement she served as Executive Administrative Assistant to the Lower School Headmaster at Randolph School for 23 years. Marilyn was a biblical counselor and featured women’s conference speaker who had a passion for studying and teaching the Word of God to women and young married couples. She and Perry were founding members of Christ Presbyterian Church in Owens Cross Roads, AL.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Perry Calvert. Her son, Michael Calvert and his wife, Carol of Owens Cross Roads and her daughter, Dana Hobbs of Birmingham.
Her 7 grandchildren, April Hobbs Hayes (Adam) Prattville, AL ; Alison Hobbs-Raby (Philip) Huntsville, AL; Amy Hobbs (Neal Vosberg) Goodlettsville, TN ; Andrew Hobbs (Sarah) East Walpole, MA; Benjamin Calvert (Jessica) Owens Cross Roads, AL ; Joseph Calvert (Jennifer) Huntsville, AL and Brooke Calvert, Owens Cross Roads, AL.
And 9 great grandchildren, Parker Calvert, Hannah Calvert, Shelby Calvert, Peri Vosberg, James Calvert, Thomas Hobbs, Helen Hayes, Jack Calvert and Hazel Hobbs.
The second of 6 children born to Homer and Ruby Hays, Marilyn is also survived by her siblings, Dale Duren (Bob), Sharon Wadsworth, Diane Burton (Mike) and Randy Hays (Gwen) all of Holly Pond, AL . She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Joyce Martin and her son in law Tom Hobbs.
Visitation will take place from 1:00- 2:15pm on Saturday July 6th at Christ Presbyterian Church 288 Old Highway 431 South, Owens Cross Roads, AL. The memorial service will begin at 2:30 with Dr. Michael Calvert and Dr. Matthew Elliott presiding. An additional visitation will follow the service.
Marilyn’s family would like to acknowledge the tender and loving care she received from the amazing staff and medical team at Willow Brooke and North Alabama Hospice.
Marilyn has requested that memorial donations may be made in her honor to the ministry of Samaritans Purse in the name of Marilyn Hays Calvert.
