Marie Kinamon Maiden, formerly of Decatur, Alabama, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 17, 2023. A private graveside service at Roselawn Cemetery was officiated by her grandson, Rev. John Maiden.
Mrs. Maiden was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She was married to her beloved husband Harry L. Maiden for 72 years, and they made their home in Decatur, Alabama. They had three children and were members of Central Baptist Church for 62 years. Failing health in 2007 moved them to Florence, Alabama to be closer to their daughter.
She was a Southern cook and skilled seamstress. Her cooking was three meals a day, every day and that included baking. Mmmmm, good! No one was served until the family gathered at the table, and someone blessed the food. Her sewing skills included (making her daughter’s clothing), crocheting, knitting (matching sweaters to skirts she made), tatting (lace for collars & tablecloths) and quilting (by hand because everyone needs a good quilt). These are now cherished family gifts to hand down as Grandmother’s Pieces. She was a no-nonsense, stay-at-home mother that had an organized home and work before play philosophy. Her children were blessed into a Christian home, and Mother always used the Bible as her rule Book.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Geneva (Hendricks) Kinamon, husband Harry L. Maiden, and siblings Charles C. Kinamon and Frances K. Owen.
She is survived by her sister Anitta L. Kinamon; her children, Regina M. Livingston (Hal), Sharon M. Threet (Mike), and Ronald E. Maiden (Lynn). Her grandchildren are Dr. C. Brock Livingston (Elizabeth), Dr. N. Ryan Livingston (Marianne), Laura Threet, Brian Threet (Deana), Allison Threet Whiteheart (Josh), Rev. John Maiden (Sarah) and Regina M. Blakely (Simeon); great-grandchildren include N. Cole Livingston, W. Luke Livingston, Ruth Adair Livingston, Sydney Elise Livingston, John Duke Maiden, Sadie Kate Maiden, Harrison Rush Maiden, Anna Elizabeth Blakely, Luke Eliot Blakely, Caleb Michael Whiteheart.
Marie was blessed to have an extraordinary care team in Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home, and ICU and Palliative Care at North Alabama Medical Center. Their care, kindness and devotion walked our family through this journey of Marie’s homegoing and we are so very grateful for them all.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home, 1404 16th Avenue SE, Decatur, Alabama 35601.
