Marie Butler passed away at home on Friday, November 28, 2022. She was born at home in Temple, OK and soon thereafter, her family moved to land near the Ute Indian reservation outside Durango, CO. She and her sister, Ramona, rode a horse to attend their one room school. They eventually moved back to Temple where she graduated high school in 1950. She completed nursing school in Wichita Falls, TX, worked as a nurse in Denver, CO, and then became a Navy nurse.

She met her husband, Ray, while stationed in Corpus Christi, TX. After they were married in 1958, she left the Navy and joined Ray in Bermuda where he was stationed as a Naval Aviator. After completion of his active duty, they moved to Pensacola, FL where their son, Mike, was born. In 1961, they moved to Huntsville where their daughters, Suzie and Kathy, were born.

In Huntsville, Marie was a fulltime mom for her children in their early years. She then went to work part time in the hospital operating room and later as a surgical nurse in the office of a local plastic surgeon. After retirement, she enjoyed being an active grandmother to her grandchildren who all lived in Huntsville. Family was always Marie’s top priority. With her loving and generous spirit, she touched numerous lives in her community. She loved nature and wildlife and was actively involved in helping others through various support groups. Although she will be greatly missed, her spirit lives on.

Marie is survived by her husband, her three children, seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

The family plans to have a celebration of her life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Family Care, Land Trust of North Alabama, the National Wildlife Federation, or The Nature Conservanc
