Mrs. Elva Marie Gurley Brooks Profile Photo Marie Brooks was born on March 9, 1929, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.  She passed away on October 29, 2023, at the age of 94.  Her career job was to raise two boys as an Air Force wife in many locations throughouth the states as well as overseas.  Aftrerwards, she worked as a childcare giver at a church day care and in the public-school lunchroom as she completed her GED at the age of 62.  She served God faithfully as a Deacon’s wife, Sunday School Teacher, and many other service areas of the church.  She led as a godly example as a mother, wife and friend to her family and peers.  At the age of 15, she received Christ and was baptized at the Lincoln Village Baptist Church.  She recalled this event was during a church revival where she attended by herself and sat at the back of the church.  At the altar call, she was resisting the calling of the Lord and proceeded to quietly exit the church when the Lord’s calling increased to include a bright light from the altar which drew her to the front instead of leaving.  She surrendered to the Lord and never looked back.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil H. Brooks, her newborn son, Cecil Jr., granddaughter, Julie Terrell, and parents, Harry Claude Gurley and Annie Mae Clark as well as her brother, Vernard Gurley.

She is survived by her loving family; sons Jerry, wife Shirley, and Terry, wife Page; grandchildren, Shawn, Justin, Ryan, Ashley Yeager, and their spouses; twelve beautiful great grandchildren.
