Marianne Gates Richter, age 87, of Lewisburg, Tennessee, died Monday, April 29, 2024, at Williamson Medical Center.
Mrs. Richter was a native of Lewisburg, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Howard and Sadie Grace Woodward Gates. She graduated valedictorian from Marshall County High School and was a graduate of David Lipscomb College (now Lipscomb University) and a homemaker. She was a faithful member of Farmington Church of Christ. She enjoyed her family and farming. Though she was not able later in life, she once said that one of her great joys was to be out on the farm driving her tractor. She was a kind, patient and gracious caregiver living much of her life in service to others. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Richter, her teenage brother, Marvin Gates, brothers-in-law, Bob Richter and John Vinson; sister-in-law, Magdalene Richter, all of Athens, Alabama; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joe Carl Richter and Dot Richter of Knoxville, Tennessee.
She is survived by her daughter, Marvene (Carter) Woodruff of Murfreesboro; two sons, Andy (Kathy) Richter of Franklin and John (Tracy Lieu) Richter of Seattle, Washington; four grandchildren, Will (Janae) Richter of Thompson’s Station, Suzanna (Logan) Hollinsaid of Memphis, Marianna Woodruff and Elizabeth Woodruff of Murfreesboro; three great grandchildren Drew Richter, Cara Hollinsaid, Beau Richter; sisters-in-law, Donise Richter and Helen Vinson, and a brother-in-law, Fred Richter, all of Athens, Alabama. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted by Bro. Leslie Shadrick and Bro. Don Williams on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 11:00 am from the Chapel of London Funeral Home in Lewisburg, TN, with burial to follow in Lone Oak Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be at London Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 2 and Friday from 10:00 until the funeral hour.
Serving as pallbearers will be John Richter, Carter Woodruff, Will Richter, Logan Hollinsaid, Chuck Richter, and Brent Richter. Honorary pallbearers will be the Elders and Deacons of Farmington Church of Christ, as well as Tony Freeman, Tex Hopkins, Richard Hopkins, and Richard McLemore.
