Marian Florence Matice, 97, of Madison, Alabama and Lotts Grove, Three Mile Bay, NY, died Christmas Day in Huntsville, AL. Marian was born in Buffalo, NY, October 27, 1926, to William C. Harley and Mildred (DeVore) Harley.
Marian was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Robert G. Matice. She and Robert were married on October 5, 1947, at Bethany United Methodist Church in Watertown, NY, following his Army Air Corps service in Italy in WWII. Marian attended Syracuse University and was a local bookkeeper before raising their family in Malone and Three Mile Bay NY.
In 1977, Marian and Robert moved to Madison, AL where Marian became a decades long volunteer with the Huntsville Madison County Convention and Visitors Bureau. She and Bob were avid travelers and in their 70s they journeyed to New Zealand and Australia for a chance to snorkle the Great Barrier Reef. They traveled to Hawaii, Jamaica, and the Bahamas. Their Roadtrex camper van took them across the United States, to many state and national parks and visits with lifelong friends. After Bob’s passing Marian continued traveling to the Netherlands, France and Panama in her 80s.
Marian is survived by four sons, Gary (Tammy) Matice, Chaumont, NY, William (Cathie) Matice, Hudson, FL, Norman (Patricia) Matice, Madison, AL, Larry (Lisa) Matice, Huntsville, AL and two daughters, Linda Finerson, Cape Vincent, NY and Kathy (Dale) Ward, Madison, AL, numerous grand, great grand, and great great grandchildren. She was the matriarch of a large, extended family both in Alabama and New York.
A memorial service for Marian will be held at Three Mile Bay, NY, United Methodist Church at 10AM, July 20, 2024 followed by interment in Three Mile Bay Cemetery beside her loving husband and best friend Robert.
