Margarete D’Angelo, 82, of Huntsville, AL, former long-time resident of Roswell, NM, peacefully departed this world in June of 2024.
She was born in Germany and from an early age displayed a keen ability to care for and genuinely understand the needs of others. She enjoyed growing up in the rural countryside of Germany with her parents and siblings. After completing school, she worked at an orphanage as a baby caregiver.
Margarete went on to meet her first husband, Harvey (USAF). She taught herself the English language with Harvey’s support and encouragement. They moved to England and welcomed a daughter. The family moved back to Germany, and unfortunately, Harvey tragically passed away several years later. With the support of her family and friends, Margarete spent the next few years working and raising her daughter.
Margarete then married her second husband, Tony (USAF), and they welcomed their first son. The family lived in both Germany and the US, and at times, Margarete was the sole caregiver while Tony was deployed. Margarete was a dedicated military spouse and mother. They then welcomed their second son and moved to the US.
Margarete continued to better herself in all aspects of her life while working and being a mother. She taught her children to be honest, loving, kind, and hardworking. She frequently put their well-being above her own. Margarete was a role model for her children, and later her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whether it was cleaning houses, being a cashier, or baking, she poured her heart into everything she did. Interacting with and helping people was where she really shined.
Margarete’s kindness and ability to create connections instilled a sense of warmth and comfort in everyone she met. She was a selfless, God-fearing woman who others enjoyed being around and frequently referred to as a “saint.”
Margarete was preceded in death by her first husband, Harvey and her second husband, Tony. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and countless friends. She will be deeply missed by all.
A private celebration of life will be held in Alabama. Berryhill Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project. https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/
