Margaret Waldrep Miller, 88, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2024. Born on May 2, 1935 in Red Bay, AL, Margaret grew up in Sheffield, AL. She graduated from the University of North Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and from the University of Alabama with a Ph.D. in Biology. Margaret joined the Biology Department at the University of South Alabama in 1964, where she met her best friend and husband of 47 years, Nathan Miller. Margaret’s life was filled with love and adventure. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends, gardening, playing bridge and tennis, and bird watching. She was known for her intelligence, generosity, warm smile, and loving nature. She is preceded in death by her parents Floyd Shelton Waldrep and Nina Smith Waldrep, her husband, Nathan Cruse Miller, and her sister Rosa Lee Waldrep. She is survived by her son Jeremy Nathan Miller (Julia) of Mobile; daughter, Jennifer Anne Miller of Edwardsville, IL; sisters Christine Waldrep Smith of Florence, AL and Frances Waldrep Brenner (Don) of Atlanta, GA; brother Floyd Shelton Waldrep, Jr (Jane Kuenz) of Cumberland, ME; her granddaughters Lyanna Aislin Miller and Evangeline Amelia Miller of Mobile; and many loving in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. A memorial service and celebration of her life will take place at Spring Hill Presbyterian Church on Saturday, April 27 at 10am with a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Margaret’s honor to Spring Hill Presbyterian Church (www.shpc.us) or to the Japanese Maple Garden of the Mobile Botanical Gardens (www.mobilebotanicalgardens.org).
