Margaret   Thrasher Wade

Margaret Thrasher Wade, 96 passed away on July 14, 2022 in Starkville, MS. She was born on March 10, 1926 to the late Newt Thrasher and Bessie Simmons Thrasher. She was the Court Clerk for City Police in Starkville for 31 years and Municipal City Clerk; she was also the first woman Sergeant in the Starkville Police Department. She was an avid Bulldog fan. She was also an active member of First Baptist Church Starkville. Margaret was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-great grandmother, and called “Granny” by many.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Roy Wade; sisters, Frances Henderson, Nancy Bell, Lucille Johnston, Jeanette Bell, and Jean Hall; and brothers, Willard, George, Everett, and Charlie Thrasher; and daughter-in-law, Deborah McBroom Wade.

She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Stone (Jimmy) of Vernon, AL, and Deborah Wade of Starkville, MS; son, Reggie Wade of Baton Rouge, La.; 3 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation is scheduled for Monday, July 18, 2022 from 11:00-1:00 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, MS, with the service immediately following in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Chip Stevens and Rev. Clifton Curtis will conduct the service. Burial will be in Memorial Garden Park in Starkville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P. O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.

We would like to thank Kindred Hospice for their special care, especially Melissa Flake and also Betty Jean Petty.
