Margaret “Peggy” Elizabeth Funke Cranston of Huntsville, Alabama went to be with her Lord on Thursday, October 31, 2024. Peggy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who shared her unwavering faith, compassion, and joy with everyone she encountered.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Retired Col. Robert “Bob” Dean Funke and Teresa Marie Graber Funke.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 51 wonderful years, John A. Cranston; her sisters: Carol Ann Funke Girardi, Barbara Ann Funke Picking, Teresa Marie Funke Campbell, Anne Marie Funke Bobo, Patricia Anne Funke Tansey, and Jennifer Kristine Funke Parrish; and her brothers Robert “Bob” Dean Funke and Michael David Funke.

Peggy’s pride and joy were her children: Johnathon M. Cranston, Michael D. Cranston, Christina “Christie” M. Cranston Crow, and Amy E. Cranston Roys.

Her legacy of love continues in her cherished grandchildren: Chloe, Deuce, and Dean Cranston; Emma and Lili Cranston; Maddie, Bella, and Max Crow; Wayland and Finn Roys.

For 46 years, Peggy worshiped and served the Lord at West Huntsville Baptist Church. She had a passion for discipleship and faithfully shared her love of Jesus Christ, whether in her home, at church, or in the homes of others. A true Proverbs 31 woman, Peggy wore compassion and kindness as her clothing, befriending and caring for all she met.  She is survived by her loving church family.

Peggy found joy in the simple beauty of life and, in the tradition of her mother, she loved flowers and had them everywhere –  outside, on the porch, and inside her home. She filled her space with birdhouses, fountains, and ponds, creating a welcoming haven for wildlife. A gifted homemaker, Peggy celebrated every holiday with festive decorations, from flower arrangements to yard art, all thoughtfully placed with love.

Her family and friends find comfort in knowing that Peggy’s beautiful spirit, love, and compassion will live on in their hearts. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.  Her legacy will be cherished and carried on by her husband of 51 amazing years and by all her family.

There will be a Celebration of Life Service on Saturday at 2pm at West Huntsville Baptist Church after a private family interment at Valley View Memorial Gardens.

Hazel Green Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
