Margaret Louise Boyd Leavell, 88 was born on June 16, 1936, the fourth child of six to Truman Pettis Boyd, Sr. and Jenny Green Boyd in Gadsden, Alabama. Margaret was baptized at an early age. She was a long-time member of Bicentennial Chapel at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.
Margaret was a graduate of Carver High school in Gadsden, Alabama and attended Alabama State University.
Margaret was united in the matrimony of Thomas J. Leavell in 1955. They were blessed with two children.
Margaret was a devout Christian and demonstrated this through all of her ministries. Her favorite saying was “Let go and let God.” If she wasn’t baking cookies and cakes for others, she was sharing her unwavering love to others. She adopted many children and grandchildren over the years. She adored her church family and could be found in the front row of the chapel wearing a hat that matched her outfit. She was a Cub Scout’s and Girl Scout’s mom, cheerleading coach, a member of the Protestant Women of the Chapel, Sunday school teacher, an avid bowler, an entrepreneur, Red Cross director, and a friend to all she met.
Margaret passed away at Huntsville Hospital, Huntsville, Alabama with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Truman, Jr., Andelia, Virgil, Eleanor and Mildred.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband of 69 years CSM (Ret.) Thomas Leavell; her children: Rosalyn Leavell-Rice and Joey Leavell; Godbrother, Paul McCullough (Mozell), beloved Jocelyn; two grandchildren: Michelle and Jermaine (Candice); six great grandchildren: Jayden, Conner, Judoree, Jerrin, Kaeson and Quinton; and several special children and grandchildren, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
